April 20, 2018
The IRONMAN Foundation® announced that it will award a $35,000 Humanitarian Relief Effort grant to Rebuilding Together Houston. The grant will help restore the homes of two seniors, Ms. Dorothy and Mr. Ronald, who live in Harris County and were impacted by Hurricane Harvey. The grant will also provide athletes with the opportunity to help restore their homes during a service project on April 26. Collectively, they will complete exterior work on Ms. Dorothy’s home and interior work on Mr. Ronald’s home. In addition, the IRONMAN Foundation will distribute $140,000 in charitable giveback to non-profit initiatives and groups in the greater Harris County and Montgomery County regions in conjunction with the 2018 Memorial Hermann IRONMAN® North American Championship Texas triathlon taking place on Saturday, April 28.

At IRONMAN 70.3 Oceanside 2018, the IRONMAN Foundation partnered with the Challenged Athletes Foundation to host a Junior Seau Foundation adaptive surf clinic for children, women and men with physical challenges where they learned to paddle, surf and catch some waves. For our participants, service project volunteers, TriClubs, teams and athletes, it was a day full of smiles, stoke and inspiration. #RaceForMore

As part of IRONMAN 70.3 Puerto Rico and in partnership with Buena Vibra Foundation, New York Health & Racquet Club and Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation, we adopted the nearby community of Barrio Ingenio, which remains devastated by Hurricane Maria. Grant funding will support the Buena Vibra Foundation’s ongoing roof reconstruction work, and on Monday, March 19, IRONMAN Foundation volunteers were transported to Barrio Ingenio for a Community Revitalization Volunteer Day. Working as teams in collaboration with community residents and leaders, we cleared debris, painted and cleaned several homes. Together we created a long-term, lasting impact and assisted with the emotional revitalization of the community by turning their post-hurricane shelters back into a vibrant community of homes.
