For the past 6 years, The IRONMAN Foundation has provided over $60,000 in community fund grants to support swim lessons offered to all third graders in Kootenai County of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. The Foundation’s donations make the swimming program more accessible for students, as well as providing items such as towels and bathing suits to those that have no gear. Through these grants, students gain swimming skills, enjoy the sport and learn about the importance of water safety. The program has taught over 1,000 Kootenai County students water safety and swim basics. The most recent grant from the Foundation to the The Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Center helped increase enrollment by 50% and provided the needed funds to invite schools that had never been able to participate. As Idaho has the second highest childhood drowning rate in the nation, this program has the goal of saving children’s lives.
