How does the athlete beneficiary program work?

Registered IRONMAN and IRONMAN 70.3 athletes are eligible to participate in this program. Once registered, athletes select a non-profit beneficiary of their choice and fundraise through The IRONMAN Foundation to support their mission.

What is the cost to participate in this program?

There is a $25 registration fee to participate in this program, payable at the time of registration.

Is there a required amount to raise?

There is no minimum fundraising requirement.

Is there a deadline to register for this program?

You must register two weeks prior to the date of your Ironman event.

Who am I fundraising for?

You are fundraising for your chosen beneficiary through The IRONMAN Foundation, a registered 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization. Once your fundraising campaign has been completed, The IRONMAN Foundation will send the proceeds from your fundraising to your selected non-profit beneficiary.

What are the requirements for selecting a beneficiary?

If you are selecting a beneficiary of your own choosing, they must be a registered 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization. You will need to provide a copy of their nonprofit status and contact information to The IRONMAN Foundation before disbursement can be made.

Are donations from my donor's tax deductible?

Yes all donations received are tax deductible. The donor will receive a confirmation of their tax deductible donation to The IRONMAN Foundation via email immediately after their donation has been made online.

Why is my international charity not eligible?

International charities are not recognized as 501(c) (3) nonprofits by the IRS and, therefore we are not able to make international contributions.

Do I have to use The IRONMAN Foundation's fundraising platform?

Yes, you must use our fundraising platform to collect your funds which is provided by Blackbaud.

What other fees are assessed?

The total processing fees are 8.6%.

When will my funds be dispersed to the selected beneficiary?

The IRONMAN Foundation will process fundraising donations on a quarterly basis. Depending on when your event takes place, there may be several weeks from the end of your fundraising campaign to when your beneficiary organization receives the donation.

Will I be informed that the donation has been made to my organization?

Both you and your organization will receive an acknowledgement letter from The IRONMAN Foundation.

Can I choose to fundraise for more than one organization?

No, you must select only one organization.

How will you know where to send my check?

A representative of The IRONMAN Foundation will verify with you where the donation is to be sent to.

Creating Your Fundraising Page:

Creating a personal fundraising page allows you to differentiate yourself and your charity. It is also a venue for you to tell a compelling story that will inspire people to give. Sharing photos, personal experiences and connections with your charity can help. Once your fundraising page is set up, you can make edits and update your account as often as you like by logging in to your Blackbaud Participant Headquarters.

How do I register online?

Go to the register here button and complete the form. You will be prompted through the registration process. Once your transaction is complete, you will receive a confirmation email receipt.

What is unique about this website?

The website offers individuals the capability to not only register for the event, but also to collect donations from their friends and family through a safe and efficient mechanism. Participants can track the progress of donations collected through viewing secured online reports.

Is my information secure?

Yes. Blackbaud has made every effort to protect your information. We use industry-standard SSL encryption techniques to make sure that your credit card information, passwords, and personal information travel securely over the internet. We have also installed an encryption engine on our database server so that your data is securely stored.

Is a portion of the registration fee a donation?

Yes. Your registration fee is credited to your fundraising dollars.

How can I see who has donated to me?

Go to the Log-in section on the site. Enter the Username and Password that you received when you registered for the event. You can then view your donor list and the amounts donated.

All of my donors are not showing up on the scroll mechanism. Why?

As your donors make a contribution, they have the option of whether or not they want to appear in the recognition scroll.

Top Two Fundraiser earn The IRONMAN Foundation Entries into the IRONMAN World Championship

How many Kona entries are available?

Through The IRONMAN Foundation's Fundraising program, there are four entries total to participate in the IRONMAN World Championship in 2013.

How are those entries allocated?

Two entries are available to the top two fundraisers who fundraise for The IRONMAN Foundation's Race For Free program across all events in the IRONMAN World Championship 2013 race season. The other two entries are available for fundraisers who choose their own charity in the Your Journey, Your Cause fundraising program.

Who is eligible to receive these Kona Entries?

The top two fundraisers in each program, across the 2013 IRONMAN World Championship race season are eligible.

What is the 2013 IRONMAN World Championship race season?

The 2013 IRONMAN World Championship Race Season runs from IRONMAN Wisconsin 2012 through IRONMAN Louisville 2013.

Is there a minimum amount that I must raise in order to be eligible to be considered a Top Fundraiser?

Yes, you must raise a minimum of $20,000 for your chosen charity in order to be eligible to be considered a top fundraiser, or a minimum of $20,000 in the Race For Free program.

How long can I continue to fundraise for?

Calculations for consideration for the IRONMAN World Championship will be tabulated as of the date of your race. Any donations received after race day will not be considered towards your qualifying as a top fundraiser.

If I am a top fundraiser when will I be notified?

You will be notified on August 26, 2013.

Is there a registration fee required to participate for the top four fundraisers to participate in the IRONMAN World Championship event?

Yes, top fundraisers who are awarded the entries must pay the entry fee into the IRONMAN World Championship.

Who is Blackbaud?

Blackbaud is a marketing infrastructure service provider offering advanced internet fundraising solutions to charitable, educational and political organizations. The IRONMAN Foundation is contracted with Blackbaud to provide online fundraising support. Through the website you can register for the event, collect donations from family and friends and more.

Will Blackbaud put my name on various mailing lists?

Blackbaud, a Kintera division collects and maintains only personal information that is voluntarily submitted to us. We will only share personal information with a third party if and when the individual submitting this information has permitted us to do so, or if we are required by law to do so.
